Anantnag, December 22 (KNO) : The residents of Sagam Kokernag staged a protest against the Block Development Officer (BDO) Sagam and accused him of demanding commission for every work allotted under various government schemes including Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). The protesters including contractors raised slogans against incumbent BDO of Sagam Kokernag, alleged that BDO is demanding commission for the payment otherwise he does not pass their bills and their payment virtually lapses. “Even works approved under MGNREGA are not allotted to those contractors who refuse to grease the palm of what they said corrupt BDO Sagam. We fail to understand why she demands commission for the public works,” said a protesting resident to KNO. The protesters demanded her transfer and appealed authorities to look into the matter and initiate a probe. Meanwhile, KNO contacted to the concern BDO Afroza who termed the allegations as ‘baseless’, saying the protesters want to approve their files illegally therefore resort to protest with the help of some PDP workers.(KNO)
